The never-ending Storey?

BRITAIN'S most successful Paralympian won a recordextending 19th gold after a breathtaking finish.

Dame Sarah Storey, 46, beat a teenager in a 44-mile road race to triumph by just half a wheel.

After picking up her second gold of the Paris Games she beamed as she apologised for making everyone back home "so nervous" about her two "incredibly close" finishes.

She is now believed to be the fourth-most successful Paralympian ever in terms of golds.

The Great Britain team, second in the medals table, hit the 100 mark last night after the 4x100m universal relay team won silver and Piers Gilliver also took silver in the wheelchair fencing.

Our gold medal haul of 42 is now one better than the last Paralympics in Tokyo. China remains top with 79 golds and 179 in total.

Last night, Poppy Maskill won her third gold, in the women's S14 100m backstroke. The 19-year-old trailed Russian Valeriia Shabalina at the halfway mark but fought back to win in a time of 1m 5.74s.

DREAMS

Britain's Dimitri Coutya gained his second fencing gold in the epee.

Alfie Hewett added to our gold haul, partnering Gordon Reid to victory in the wheelchair tennis men's doubles.

Alfie said: "We've wanted this title for a very long time. It's the stuff of dreams."

Sophie Unwin and Jenny Holl were in floods of tears after winning their tandem road race. And Ben Sandilands, 21, set a new world record in the men's T20 1500m final on his Paralympic debut.

Talking about her history-making performance, Dame" Sarah said despite "creaking" before the road race: "I keep finding ways to win."
