A MUM who has been told her daughter's murderer is awaiting early release from his life sentence has praised the Mirror for securing a victory for grieving parents.
Rishi Sunak has promised that if he wins the General Election he will bring in tougher sentences for domestic abuse killers. This is one of the main aims of the Mirror's Justice for our Daughters campaign.
We are also calling for Labour to vow that if it wins the vote, it will bring in our sentencing demands within 100 days.
Carl Truffas was jailed for life in 2011, with a minimum of 16 years, for the murder of Natalie James, 23, who gave birth to their son six weeks before she was killed.
Natalie's mum, Gill James, says she has been told by email that Truffas, 46, is being recommended for a move to an open prison by the Parole Board to facilitate his release.
Gill, 57, whose family have appealed to Justice Secretary Alex Chalk to reconsider the plan, said:
