WHEN asked to identify the multiple victims of his sexual addiction, Russell Brand once said: "I feel like Saddam Hussein trying to pick out individual Kurds."
He also joked that "if you say sorry you can rape and murder as many people as you like", after performing in a play where one character rapes and murders another "but because he felt guilty about it in the afterlife he was basically let off".
Many of the passages in Brand's two self-penned autobiographies - My Booky Wook, published in 2007, and My Booky Wook 2, which followed in 2010 shed disturbing light on his promiscuity and relentless pursuit of women.
But his lewd and out of control behaviour, as described in the books, stops short of the serious claims made against him at the weekend by the Sunday Times and Channel 4's Dispatches, which he denies.
Instead, he paints himself as an relentless sex addict and egotist whose predatory behaviour causes distress to those around him.
Most concerning to Brand is when it threatens his career. This led him to seek sex addiction treatment in 2005.
He wrote in My Booky Wook: "I didn't want to go to that sexual treatment centre but all the do-gooders... they all insisted and I sort of, kind of agreed.
"Just to shut everyone up, really, and for the same reason I gave up drink and drugs because my ambition is the most powerful force within me, so once people convinced me that my sexual behaviour might become damaging to my career, I found it easier to think of it as a flaw that needed to be remedied.
