100 Labour MPs 'set to rebel' in battle to win payouts for the WASPI women

AROUND 100 Labour MPs could rebel against the government's decision to deny compensation to WASPI women, insiders claim.

Keir Starmer insists taxpayers cannot afford to pay up to £10.5billion to 1950s-born women not properly told their pension age was rising.

But furious critics have called for a vote and the Lib Dems are considering forcing a debate.

Labour backbencher Clive Lewis said the government made a grave error by ignoring a watchdog’s recommendation to make individual payments of up to £2,950 to around 3.5 million women.

And he warned: “In an age where people are losing faith in politics and the systems we operate this hasn’t gone down well.”

Dozens of his colleagues have criticised the government.
