BUDGET chain Wilko is on the brink of collapse, putting 12,000 jobs at risk, after failing to secure a takeover amid "mounting cash pressures".
The homewares, hardware and gardening retailer, which has about 400 stores, said it planned to appoint administrators, but bosses insisted talks would continue to try to reach a buyout deal.
It marks a sad moment for the business, founded in Leicester in 1930.
Yesterday's notice of intention to appoint administrators at the High Court came after it hired advisers earlier this year to find a buyer to secure fresh funding and keep the firm trading.
