Over 6m buildings in danger of flooding | Analysis is 'stark climate crisis alert'

AROUND one in five homes and businesses are in flood risk areas.

Analysis from the Environment Agency reveals the number of properties in danger has risen to 6.3 million, up from 5.5 million when the last assessment was carried out in 2018.

It warned climate change could push the figure to about 8 million by the middle of the century - or around one in four homes and businesses.

The update comes after widespread disruption caused by wind and floods from storms Bert and Darragh. Strong winds continued yesterday morning, with a plane pictured making a bumpy landing at Leeds Bradford airport.
