RESCUERS scrabbling through the devastating aftermath of the Turkey earthquake have found a woman still alive after eight days of hell.

The terrified 35-year-old was surviving in bone-numbing cold, with no food or water, and the constant fear that her life was hanging by a thread.

One aftershock could have caused another collapse and killed her.

Her rescue from the rubble in Kahramanmaras after 205 hours was a moment of triumph as the disaster's terrible death toll climbed to 37,000.

And all the signs indicate that figure will rise even higher in coming days as hope of finding survivors diminishes.
