DELUSIONAL Rishi Sunak jetted in to Edinburgh yesterday and claimed his party was making “progress” in Scotland despite tanking in the polls.
The embattled Prime Minister made a pitstop to launch the Scottish Conservatives’ manifesto alongside hapless Douglas Ross before immediately heading for a flight back to London.
And he refused to apologise for the economic chaos unleashed by his party as a result of Brexit and Liz Truss’s chaotic spell in Downing Street.
The PM said: “Since I’ve got this job, I’ve made it a priority to restore economic stability. And although people are just starting to see the benefits of that, we are making good progress.”
Asked by the Record if the Tories trailing Labour in the polls was a sign voters did not like him, Sunak said: “The only poll that matters is on July 4.
“I get that you want to focus on the process and the polls but what I’m focused on is talking to as many people as possible between now and polling day.”
Pressed on whether he was responsible for the Tories’ shambolic campaign, Sunak said: “We’re going to make good progress here in Scotland.”
It comes as the Tory leader was accused of an “astonishing lack of leadership” by failing to suspend Conservatives facing investigation into betting on the date of the general election.
