Couple planning new life in Scotland are priced out by new immigration rules which have left him stuck in South Africa

A WOMAN has been left devastated after controversial new immigration rules crushed her hopes of bringing her South African husband to Scotland.

British citizen Kirsty Van der Zee moved to Gatehouse of Fleet from Johannesburg six weeks ago and planned to start a family in the Dumfries and Galloway town.

She thought that it would be straightforward to apply for a UK Spouse Visa for her husband Chervaques, who is still in South Africa.

But a massive cost hike on the process, due to be implemented in March 2024, has shattered her dreams.

The minimum income threshold for applicants applying for visas for their spouses is currently £18,600 but is set to rise to £38,700. Kirsty,
