TONY DOCHERTY wants Luke Dundee stalwart McCowan to make his pitch to replace Callum McGregor in the Scotland squad.
The midfielder, who has been the subject of multiple failed bids from Hibs, has become a key player for Dee and worn the captain's armband in the absence of an injured Joe Shaughnessy.
Celtic skipper McGregor last week announced his decision to retire from international football after racking up 63 caps.
The 31-year-old was a key man for Steve Clarke's side and his absence will be felt when it comes to selecting a squad for Nations League clashes against Poland and Portugal, the first of which is three weeks today.
But Dens boss Docherty is adamant there is a readymade replacement at his door as he called on McCowan to earn his call-up.
Asked if the 26-year-old is ready to step up, he said: "Yeah, possibly.
Callum made the decision and what a fantastic servant he's been to his country.
