FRANKIE MCAVOY may insist he's calling the shots when the starting pistol sounds on Hearts' season but it will be Steven Naismith holding the gun.
The new management structure, which sees McAvoy take on the head coach role and Naisy technical director, is a bit of a shambles.
Especially as the latter was the man in charge when the same coaching team replaced Robbie Neilson in the interim three months ago.
But it's the way it has to be thanks to UEFA's ridiculous requirement to have a Pro Licence to manage in Europe.
It's a shocker of a rule and could well hamper the careers of young coaches like Naisy.
Fans seem to be in a bit of a flap about the whole arrangement and that hasn't been helped by the lack of signings at Tynecastle.
The bottom line is Naisy will be as influential in footballing terms now as he was then.
McAvoy might be the manager in name but that won't stop Naisy on the touchline. Managers often leave screaming and shouting to others during games.
