CAMPAIGN FOR CRACKDOWN GETS BOOST VAPEORISED

ZERO Waste Scotland says banning single use disposable vapes should be considered.

The Scottish Government-funded environmental group also said charging customers to buy a product linked to the littering crisis should also be an option.

The Record has led calls for a ban on single-use vapes after streets and beaches became dumping grounds for e-cigs.

A report by not-for-profit group Zero Waste Scotland and Dr Dominic Hogg, of Equanimator Ltd, has laid bare the scale of the problem.

They found that sales revenues of single-use vapes through grocery outlets doubled between October 2022 and March this year.

It was also estimated that 67 per cent of users were under 25 and 10 per cent of e-cigs are dropped as litter.

The report also noted that the batteries used in some popular vapes could be recharged 500 times.
