‘Scrap the price hike’ Tories told

THE number of people who can’t afford their energy bills will double, it has been warned. 

It comes as the Tories are under mounting pressure to scrap April’s energy bill hike.

Energy regulator Ofgem yesterday confirmed that a cap which, in theory, limits what millions on standard tariffs pay, will be cut by nearly £1000 to £3280 a year from the spring. In practice those customers will not pay that much due to the Government’s Energy Price Guarantee.

The EPG, launched last autumn, works in a similar way by limiting the hit to customers.
