DUP SAY NO TO BREXIT BORDER CHECKS DEAL

Party throws vote into chaos claiming Sunak plan ignores EU law’

THE DUP yesterday dealt a blow to the Brexit border checks deal when the party unanimously rejected it.

It said Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's Windsor Framework does not deal with the "fundamental issue" of EU law.

MPs are due to vote on the deal tomorrow.

It was negotiated with the EU last month in a bid to break more than a year of deadlock which has seen the devolved government in the province collapse.

But the DUP said its eight MPs would vote against the so-called Stormont brake -which would give the Northern Ireland assembly the power to object to EU law changes affecting the province.
