SCOTS will be forced to shell out to celebrate Easter this weekend as the cost of traditional holiday favourites has soared thanks to the Tory cost-of-living crisis.

The price of lamb, Easter eggs and chocolate have all rocketed over the last year as a result of food inflation, sparked by Brexit and the Tories' disastrous handling of the economy.

Lamb an Easter Sunday lunch favourite - has risen from £13.53 per kilogram in 2019 to £16.85 per kilogram in 2024, a nearly 25 per cent increase. Eggs are up by seven per cent in the last year and chocolate bars have increased by more than 10 per cent, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics.

Some of the most popular brands of Easter eggs have also jumped by more than 50 per cent in the last 12 months.

Last night, SNP economy spokesman Drew Henry insisted the ballooning cost of Easter favourites was driven by Brexit and blamed the UK Government for not tackling inflation quickly enough.

He said: "The Tory cost-ofliving crisis and austerity policies have left household budgets in tatters across Scotland, and left families facing real financial struggles during holidays - a time that should be fun.
