Spieth admits more than a month idle had US chasing from the get-go
GIMME FIVE? NO THANKS

JORDAN SPIETH reckons America's scheduling needs a rethink after their Ryder Cup calamity.

Although Zach Johnson refused to blame bad preparation, the skipper conceded he may have done some things differently after leaving the cherished trophy in Rome.

Spieth believes his team never recovered from a disastrous day one which left their hopes in tatters.

The majority of the US outfit didn't play a single competitive round after the end of the Fed-Ex Cup series.

That month off left them sleeping at the start at Marco Simone and their first-day hammering destroyed their hopes.

Spieth said: "Clearly, the entire day Friday was not what we were looking to do. And it's really hard to come back in on away game when you fall so far behind. I've been a part of that before.

"If you asked us when we would like to play the Ryder Cup relative to our schedule, I think we would probably say, give us a week after the Tour Championship or two weeks after and then go, instead of five.

"It's hard for me to speak for the rest of the team. For me personally, I'd like to feel pretty sharp going in. But that's just how I feel.

"Some guys come off of weeks off, go through some prep and play great after more time off.
