MIKEL ARTETA failed to put Arsenal back among the European heavyweights as they suffered a last-gasp defeat
Porto's Brazilian star Galeno hit a spectacular 94th-minute winner to leave the Gunners cursing a negative approach and Arteta left eating his words.
The Arsenal boss had talked in the build-up about putting his side back on the map in the Champions League but he did it with the exact opposite of their gung-ho tactics in the Premier League.
After smashing 21 goals in their last five league games, they drew a blank and did not even manage a shot on target.
Instead, Porto's last-gasp hero Galeno curled a stunning winner with the Arsenal defence standing off and simply watching his 25-yarder fly into the far corner.
It brought the whole Estadio do Dragao to life and, while Arsenal must fancy themselves in being able to turn the tie around, it is a blow to their momentum.
Arteta said: "We have to manage much better.
"We can not win with the way we handled the ball on three occasions in deep areas.
