ZHARNEL HUGHES woke up in the Big Apple with a dream. By the time he went back to sleep, that dream was a reality

Many had tried and failed over the past 30 years to take Linford's Christie's 100metres national record.

But after three decades of holding steady against all-comers, Christie finally had to relinquish his claim when Hughes clocked 9.83sec while winning at the New York City Grand Prix.

"I woke up with a dream this morning, Hughes said. "This morning I woke up with 9.83 on my mind. When I looked at the clock and saw 9.83, I don't know if you saw my reaction but I was like: 'What just happened there?" It actually came through.
