I RAN FOR MY LIFE

A SCOTS mum caught up in the deadly Moroccan earthquake has told how she feared she would never see her family again as she "ran for her life" from the impact.

Elzbieta Kiełkowska, from Glasgow, was enjoying a trip to Ouarzazate with a group of 17 other women when the quake struck on Friday night.

The salon owner was in her hotel when she first realised something was wrong, at around 11pm.

She said "It felt like a washing machine was going off under my feet and everything was vibrating all around us.

"We were immediately ordered to evacuate the hotel and to go towards the town square.

"The buildings around us began to crumble and I ran for my life.

"My shoes fell off and I was almost hit by a passing motorbike as people fled and panicked, but I barely even noticed." Just moments later, the hotel Elzbieta had been staying in burst into flames after a gas boiler exploded.
