CONOR MCMENAMIN admits he paid a price for trying to brave his way through the pain barrier.

The Northern Ireland striker has been desperate to make a good impression on St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson after making his switch from Glentoran in the summer.

But his eagerness to impress led him to playing on with a knee injury when he really should have asked for some time out of the Paisley line-up.

In the end, it cost McMenamin dear as the 28-year-old found himself sidelined for almost two months.

But he's back now and is adamant he won't make the same mistake in future.

McMenamin said: "I've enjoyed my time in Scotland so far. It's been good and the boys have made me feel welcome although I've had a few injury setbacks.

"My knee was causing me bother and I had a scan around October-November time but I just tried to play through it to try and help the team.

"I probably should have pulled out but then the gaffer made the decision to pull me out.

"I'm still not over it but I'm at the stage now where I can manage it and stay on top of it.
