It was a bit of a shock but I feel OK today

KING Charles has stepped back into the limelight by returning to public duties for the first time since his cancer diagnosis in February.

Smiling and waving alongside Queen Camilla, he spoke to patients and doctors at University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre yesterday.

He said his diagnosis had been “a bit a shock” and told patients: “I’ve got to have my treatment this afternoon as well... I know how you’re feeling.”

Lesley Woodbridge, 63, who was receiving chemotherapy asked how he was. The King replied: “Not too bad. It’s always a bit of a shock isn’t it, when they tell you.”

He answered questions about his health, reassuring patients in the London hospital.

He told Asha Millen, 60, who is receiving chemotherapy for bone marrow cancer: “I’m well’.”

Charles asked one male patient whether he was using a cold cap, a method for retaining hair during chemotherapy, and was heard to say it can help.

Last Friday, after almost three months of treatment, Buckingham Palace announced he would be returning to public-facing duties.

But they warned each engagement would be looked at and “adapted” according to advice.
