RORY MCILROY admitted he "just didn't do enough" to shut the door on Cam Young as his WGC Match Play bid hit a brick call.
The Northern Irishman was two up with three to play in his semi-final with the American, only to lose on the first extra hole.
World No.1 Scottie Scheffler didn't fare any better as Sam Burns beat the defending champ on the 21st hole in Austin.
World No.3 Mcllroy said: "I'm feeling obviously pretty bad, two up with three to play. But Cam played great.
"He birdied 16 and 18 and then made a hell of a birdie on the play-off hole after getting an unlucky break with the tee shot.
"I just didn't do enough over those last four holes to close him out. When you don't do that and you're up against a player of Cam's calibre, that's what's going to happen."
