A LABOUR councillor suspended over a race row has backed social media posts on a far-right party chaired by a former BNP organiser.

Audrey Dempsey has "liked" tweets on X which talk up the far-right Homeland Party and accuse Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar of "anti white hate crime".

Glasgow Council insiders fear she could end up joining the extremist group after appearing to endorse them online.

Urging her to stand down, Glasgow MSP Patrick Harvie said: "Glasgow is a vibrant, diverse and welcoming city. Councillor Dempsey's ignorant views and apparent support for a fringe, racist organisation are contrary to everything it and Scotland stands for.

"It's increasingly concerning those who openly support bigoted views keep being selected as Labour candidates. Anas Sarwar must root it out before it can do any more damage to our communities."

Labour suspended the Springburn/ Robroyston councillor recently over her comments and social media activity. She tried to ask a question on "rising racist attacks on white children and teachers" and reportedly claimed asylum seekers get "priority" over native Scots.

Dempsey's X account has shown her cosying up to the Homeland Party in recent days.
