HUNDREDS of staff facing redundancy at Scotland's only oil refinery have been thrown a jobs lifeline.

ScottishPower has said under-threat workers at Ineos's Grangemouth plant have the skills they are looking for as it ramps up investment in its electricity networks.

The energy giant, which has its HQ in Glasgow, is looking to recruit 1000 people next year.

It says it can also help find careers for those whose jobs were axed by construction giant ISG after it fell into administration in September.

ScottishPower's Sarah McNulty said: "This is one of our largest ever recruitment programmes and one of the largest in Scotland.
