INVERNESS......2 ARBROATH......0
ALASDAIR FRASER AT THE CALEDONIAN STADIUM
BILLY DODDS hailed his side’s patience and killer quality as the Caley Thistle promotion surge continued.
The Highlanders controlled a crucial home test against the third bottom side and made a second-half breakthrough as Nathan Shaw tucked away his eighth goal of the season.
A Scott Allardice penalty kick proved vital, especially when St Mirren loanee Jay Henderson saw straight red soon after.
The win lifted Billy Dodds’ side to within two points of Ayr in the fourth place play-off spot, while Arbroath missed the chance to extend their three-point cushion on the relegation play-off zone.
Delighted boss Dodds said: “We had to show every part of what you have to do to win a game.
“We are going well so Arbroath made it difficult for us and we had to find a way to win.
“They were frustrating us in the first half, slowing the game down and quite rightly so.
