GLASGOW last night got the win they needed against old rivals Edinburgh to go back to the top of the United Rugby Championship.
They have one hand on the 1872 Cup, too, after a couple of late scores gave them a 12-point lead to take into next Saturday's return leg at Murrayfield.
Glasgow coach Franco Smith said: "Edinburgh were a big physical challenge but our process took us through. The guys who came on did their jobs.
"I'm really proud of how the guys stepped up. We know Edinburgh are a fantastic side and we don't expect anything less next week. They will want to redeem what happened but we'll enjoy Christmas first." Glasgow drew first blood in six minutes when stand-off Ross Thompson chipped over a penalty.
They had already won an earlier one against the Edinburgh scrum and sent that to touch, then drove from the lineout.
