POLICE have reacted with fury after being told crime suspects will be asked to provide a review of their time in the cells.

Police Scotland is introducing a new survey which allows those held in custody to rate their stay.

Details of the "custody user experience survey" were recently shared with officers, prompting a backlash from officers and politicians.

A post on the Police Scotland intranet, shared with the Daily Record, said: "There is soon to be a custody user experience survey sent out by text message to persons who have been within the custody environment.

"Therefore it is incumbent that staff record mobile telephone numbers from persons brought into our care." One incensed officer told the Record he was red-faced about the plans saying the survey will see cons rating their stay like a holiday review.

He said: "I'm beyond embarrassed. We are bringing people into the cells because they've either committed a crime, are suspected of committing one, or can help us with an inquiry.
