DONALD Trump denied illegally retaining classified files as he became the first ex-US president to face federal court charges.
Trump, 76, arrived at the court yesterday via a tunnel, away from public view.
Few supporters turned up to demonstrate against his arrest, though officials had been braced for potential unrest from thousands at Miami federal court in Florida.
But opponents greeted his arrival with banners reading: "Lock him up."
Inside he was arrested by the FBI and booked with co-defendant Walt Nauta, though he did not have his mugshot taken.
