Two days of drama put me through the wringer but I rode out the storms

EMOTIONAL Jack Carlin admitted he'd endured the toughest 48 hours of his career to claim sprint bronze on another day of drama in the velodrome.

The Paisley flyer found himself booed on the podium by sections of Dutchman Jeffrey Hoogland's support after emerging victorious from a third-race restart for the second day running.

His was the second Scottish medal in a matter of minutes on the track after Neah Evans claimed silver with partner Elinor Barker in the women's madison.

Evans later revealed she'd only beaten a bout of Epstein Barr Virus that left her unable to climb stairs weeks before heading to Paris.

But it was Carlin who was the hottest story of the day after another sprint session full of controversy. The 27-year-old earned a place on the podium after he had held his hands up to the incident that saw him crash into Hoogland as he tried to pass.
