Almost 7000 emergency workers were attacked doing their jobs in last year

NEARLY 7000 police officers and other emergency workers were assaulted last year.

The latest Police Scotland performance report shows that 18 officers were assaulted every day in 2022-23, amounting to 6657 assaults.

The figures represent a 6.2 per cent reduction (438 fewer assaults) from the previous year.

The number of attacks on Scottish Fire & Rescue Service (SFRS) crews increased from 76 in 2021-22 to 80 in 2022-23, with a 10 per cent rise in objects thrown at firefighters and appliances.
