THE X Factor winner Joe McElderry says the "ruthless and cruel" show will need a revamp ahead of its comeback.
Simon Cowell is planning to bring back the hit TV series next year.
But 2009 champion Joe, 31, believes viewers no longer want to see judges being mean to contestants.
He said: "I think X Factor was brilliant when I did the show but then it just became too cruel with the six-chair challenge.
