ANTHONY GORDON'S last significant contribution to Gareth Southgate's England tenure was to crash his electric bicycle at speed while making a video of himself.
Oh, and then have a good laugh about it while also suggesting England, under Southgate, were a bit predictable.
If they had ever been on - and, bear in mind, he had only played for five minutes of the campaign at that point - the wheels came off Gordon's European Championship after he went head-first from his bike into a gag-aminute media appearance.
Southgate liked the odd laugh but, presumably, did not take kindly to a spot of slapstick mid-tournament.
If Southgate's departure was good for any English player's international prospects, Gordon might have been that player, although it has to be remembered he was selected for the Euros ahead of Jack Grealish and Marcus Rashford - in the first place.
But Lee Carsley has long been a Gordon champion, the Newcastle attacker having been the Player of the Tournament when England won the Under-21s Euros under the current interim senior boss in 2023.
