Murray only fit enough to team up with brother

DOUBLES OR NOTHING

IT was not the way Andy Murray wanted to say goodbye to Wimbledon. But playing with his brother Jamie in the men’s doubles on Centre Court is not a bad Plan B.

And if it is staged on Election Day tomorrow, two Scots will briefly unite all four nations in celebrating his glorious career – and hoping they beat two Aussies.

“I would think it’s going to be hugely emotional walking out with my brother,” said Andy.

“I’ve given a lot to give myself the opportunity to play here.

“The singles was always going to be a big ask. Like I said a few days ago, it was unlikely I was going to be able to play.

“Getting the opportunity to play with Jamie here will be special – we’ve never done that before. And yeah, I’ll make the most of it.

“It’s easier said than done to just enjoy it when you’re out there because you’re competing, concentrating and trying to win the match.

“But yeah, hopefully we can have a good run.”

So after a fortnight, season and even career battling injuries, Murray is not quite ready to leave his home Grand Slam just yet.
