Chair-way to heaven: In 2005, archaeologists were puzzled to discover a tomb in the ancient Mayan city of Copan in Honduras dating to 560AD. It featured a jewel-clad male skeleton sitting in a chair with its legs crossed.
Flushed away: In 2000, Chinese archaeologists found a toilet inside a tomb of an unnamed ruler of the Han dynasty, dating back to 200BC. Scientists say the flushable latrine, found in Shangqiu, was provided for the king in the afterlife.
Toxic shock: China's Terracotta warriors are just part of a complex around the tomb of emperor Qin Shi Huang, who died in 210BC. His burial place itself hasn't been excavated as it contains huge amounts of lethal mercury originally put in to represent lakes and rivers of the nation.
