Avocado toast? Sunak in frantic final push as he warns on 'unchecked' Labour

On the home stretch before Thursday’s election, the Prime Minister was engaged on a marathon day of campaigning in traditional Conservative heartlands including at an Ocado warehouse in Bedfordshire, as he struggles to head off a pincer movement from Labour, the Liberal Democrats and Reform UK across southern England.

Tory strategists deployed Mr Sunak for an energetic last push as they sought to attack Sir Keir Starmer’s work ethic, portraying the Labour leader as a putative “part-time Prime Minister”, provoking a furious retort from Wes Streeting.

The shadow health secretary said that health minister Maria Caulfield was “debasing herself” by claiming this morning that Sir Keir would work only a “four-day week” in No 10 following an interview in which he vowed to down tools at 6pm every Friday to spend time with his teenage children.

Mr Streeting told Sky News: “No, what Keir Starmer has said is that throughout his time as leader of the Labour Party, he’s tried to protect Friday nights with his kids. Firstly, because he’s a good dad. Secondly, his wife’s family have Jewish heritage, and Friday nights are special.
