Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) went a step ahead and hiked prices by as much as 9% at intervals of 3-4 over 10 months. But market leader Maruti Suzuki exercised that option only twice in the last 12 months with a total increase of 1.9%.
From the times when manufacturers waited for the market leader to make the first move on increasing prices, Indian automakers - Tata Motors and M&M-now believe that their brand and product recall is strong enough to carry a price adjustment without them losing share.
Despite a jump of 9% in prices in just 10 months, the Scorpio N, one of M&M's flagship products, remains the top-selling brand for the automaker. From ₹11.99 lakh, the SUV is now sold at ₹13.05 lakh (ex-showroom).
Prices of Tata Nexon, one of India's bestselling SUVs, has gone up by more than 5% since November 2022 to ₹7.99 lakh from ₹7.59 lakh (ex-showroom).
