New launches in early 2025 may spell trouble for inventory glut

The first few months of 2025 is going to see one new car model launch every couple of weeks, which in turn will put additional pressure on the high inventory levels plaguing the industry as buyers might opt for the newer models.

A number of car brands have announced new product introductions totaling over 12 slated for launch in the early part of 2025. These models are powered by a mix of electric motors and petrol engines.

November wholesale volumes (sales from manufacturers to dealers) announced on Sunday, grew 5% year-on-year to nearly 352,000 units on the back of two consecutive months of below 1% y-o-y growth.

Though dealers have complained of elevated levels of inventory throughout the festive season, automakers have not taken any corrective measures to bring down the stock levels.
