Teachers question same uniform policy

A day after the state government announced changes to the distribution system under the 'One State, One Uniform' policy, teachers' organisations and School Management Committees (SMCs) voiced strong opposition, calling for a return to the previous system that allowed schools to select uniforms locally.

Teachers' organisations questioned the rationale behind the policy, particularly its exemption of private schools. If the government is claiming this as a 'One State, One Uniform' policy, why are private schools excluded? This creates an uneven playing field, they pointed out. SMCs highlighted that under the earlier system, students in most schools had the flexibility to select uniforms of their choice for a particular year, a practice that fostered inclusivity and local decision-making.

As per the current policy, the new uniform is a white shirt and blue pants for boys, and a blue frock or salwaar kameez for girls.
