PATNA: While the world will celebrate the start of the new year, January 1, 2025 will mark the 100 years of the Danapur rail division, which will be its another milestone.
One of the oldest rail divisions and an integral part of the Indian Railways since January 1, 1925, it played a pivotal role in shaping the rail network in Bihar and eastern India. At present, 472 Mail/Express/Passenger trains besides 160 goods trains pass through it.
Formerly known as Dinapore, Danapur Cantonment Board also placed a crucial role in the 1857 Uprising. During those days, British government used to transport goods produced in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh through the Ganga river to Kolkata, and from there to England.
