SHILLONG/SILIGURI/SILCHAR: Heavy rainfall has wreaked havoc in several parts of northeast, affecting 37,535 people across 10 districts in Assam and 2,700 people across 79 villages in Meghalaya. In North Sikkim, more than 2,400 tourists, including 60 college students, were stranded after incessant rainfall blocked roads.
In Meghalaya, rain-related incidents over the past 10 days have left two girls and one man dead. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a "red alert" for three districts East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills, officials familiar with the matter said.
