The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Monday allowed the withdrawal of an election petition filed against the election of Samajwadi Party leader Awadhesh Prasad from the Milkipur assembly constituency, paving the way for a bypoll in the high-profile seat in Ayodhya.

The petition, filed by former BJP MLA Baba Gorakhnath, challenged the 2022 election of Prasad alleging discrepancies.
