Retail inflation came down from 5.7% in December 2023 to 5.1% in January 2024 in India, according to data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO). In another set of statistics released by the NSO, industrial activity gained momentum to grow at 3.8% in December 2023, compared to 2.4% in November. These numbers underline the larger Goldilocks state of the economy, which has been experiencing high growth with moderate inflation rates.
Experts believe that the moderation in inflation numbers. could open a window for rate cuts from the next quarter.
