The first task was to enter the building which housed Nest Newborn and Child Hospital, as a trench next to the building, dug up by the civic authorities laying a sewer line, made it hard. Soon, wooden planks were placed to cross over even as some firefighters scrammed through windows broken by the panic-struck medical staff looking for an escape. Inside, the firefighters found 19 newborns, some of them on medical support. Though e fire was contained to the basement and did not spread to the hospital on the first floor, the building was rapidly heating up and smoke engulfed its insides.
