Hindustan Times|May 04, 2023
In a drive to ensure quality products for domestic consumers and to have a competitive edge for Indian goods in export markets, the government has decided to bring 675 new products under the quality control order (QCO) with a view to replicating the success in eliminating substandard toys affecting the health of Indian kids, commerce minister Piyush Goyal said on Wednesday.

Goyal said the move was in line with the Prime Minister's vision of 'Zero Defect, Zero Effect'.

To protect the health of consumers and the environment, the Modi government has notified several QCOs since 2014.

"The government's focus is evident from the numbers," Goyal said, adding that before 2014 there were only 106 products under QCOS. After 2014, the number jumped to 387. Besides that, the government has notified 32 products under QCOS recently and another 643 are in the pipeline, he said.
