NIA court convicts 28 for killing ABVP member in UP's Kasganj

The NIA court of additional district and sessions judge Vivekanand Saran Tripathi, which also acquitted two accused over lack of evidence, will pronounce the quantum of punishment on Friday. "We will seek maximum punishment for all those convicted," district government counsel Manoj Tripathi said, confirming the development.

The judge found 28 accused guilty under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 147 (rioting), besides provisions of the Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act, 1971.

Chandan Gupta was killed on January 26, 2018 during a rally involving a large number of motorcycles with the tricolour and saffron flags, led by members of Hindu right-wing outfits, including Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) - the students wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) - in Kasganj city.
