Memes started to flow thick and fast on social media against World Cup ticketing partner BookMyShow on Tuesday evening as its website crashed minutes after the tickets for India's warm-up matches in Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram went on sale. Cricket fans who were able to log in were either made to wait in long a "queue" or simply had to stare at error pages.
In some cases, fans were given a waiting time of up to five hours before the BookMyShow server would respond to say whether they would be able to process their request to purchase tickets online. Fans have been allowed to register interest for tickets August 15 onwards.
While BookMyShow is the exclusive ticketing partner of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the upcoming World Cup, Mastercard is the International Cricket Council's (ICC) global partner wherein the card users would get an exclusive 24-hour presale window.
