3,000 healthcare workers assaulted

TD's concern as hospital attacks increase again

NEARLY 3,000 frontline healthcare workers were assaulted in the first half of this year, stark new figures have revealed.

Data provided to Sinn Fein's health spokesman David Cullinane by the HSE show that while the number of had fallen over several years, they have started to rise again.

The HSE figures included information about all physical, verbal and sexual assaults on staff that have been reported on the National Incident Management System.

They covered the first two quarters of each year between 2018 and 2023.

The highest number of assaults each year was reported by nursing staff.
