Another shameful record in Ireland's homeless crisis

HOMELESSNESS figures broke records once again last month as the number of people living in emergency accommodation increased to 12,600.
It comes as it was confirmed that the number of families presenting to homelessness service in the second quarter of 2023 increased 24.5 per cent compared to the first three months of the year.
The Department of Housing released the homelessness figures for June yesterday afternoon.
It found that there were 8,835 adults living in emergency accommodation (up from 8,742 in May).
There were also 3,765 children classed as homeless, up 66 from last month Some 1,804 families were living in emergency accommodation in June.
Dublin had the highest proportion of people living in emergency accommodation with 6,424. This represented 73 per cent of the total number of people in emergency accommodation.
The homelessness figures do not account for people who are living on the streets or "couch surfing".
