OLDER people are shunning going to GAA matches and the shops because they can no longer pay with cash.
And it has been warned that the move away from the traditional method of paying could see the end of old Irish tipping traditions like giving a tradesman “the practice of a pint” in gratitude for service.
Rural Independent TDs have accused the Government of introducing policies that back the objectives of banks and financial institutions to make Ireland a cashless society.
The Dail group of independents have a problem with this because they believe it is unfair to the old and more vulnerable who are not as digitally literate as younger generations.
And they introduced a Motion in the Dail yesterday morning calling on Finance Minister Michael McGrath to order certain sectors to keep accepting cash.
