HEAVY ON THE MAYO NAYS NOW

DONNING the Galway colours has always come naturally to Rob Finnerty- and it might even be rubbing off on his dad at this stage.

The novelty of playing against Mayo, who his father, Anthony, represented in the 1989 and 96 All-Ireland finals, has largely worn off at this stage, but facing them in a national final at Croke Park this weekend is something different all the same.

Naturally, his father supports his son ahead of his native county when the teams face off, though he wouldn't exactly be wearing the Galway hooker coat of arms on his breast either.

“He's probably loosening up a bit now in the last year or so,’ smiled Rob.

“He wouldn't have the Galway jersey on him but he might go as far as having a maroon shirt on. I'd say that’s as far as he'll go.’
